Safety First
We're proud to announce our exclusive partnership with RodRadar, global pioneers in excavation safety, and their UK distributor MachineTech, to introduce Live Dig Radar® (LDR) technology to the UK Plant Hire Industry. This cutting-edge innovation supports our vision of a safer, smarter, and more sustainable future for the construction industry.
We are now the exclusive UK supplier of the LDR bucket for plant hire, leading the way in delivering the very best safety solutions to help our customers use data to dig with confidence. This new addition to our modern and reliable fleet allows real-time detection of underground utilities through AI-powered Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). Eliminating the guesswork reduces the risk of costly and dangerous utility strikes, something that we want to help our customers mitigate.
With over 60,000 underground strikes occurring each year in the UK, at a cost of £2.4 billion to the economy, this innovative technology is a major step forward in protecting people, reducing environmental risk, and driving productivity. Every single service or cable strike has the potential to cause serious harm, delay projects, and release harmful materials into the ground. The LDR Bucket helps lower this risk by putting safety first with every dig.
As part of our award-winning training and development programme, we ensure every operator who will use the LDR Bucket is fully trained and competent. This is regardless of whether they're part of our operator pool or a customer hiring self-drive. With support from our nationwide Training Centre, operators receive hands-on experience and expert guidance so they can unlock the full potential of this technology.
Our initial investment includes:
Type 1 buckets for 3-tonne machines
Type 2 buckets for 5- and 8-tonne machines
Type 3 buckets for 14-tonne machines
Every hire comes with the option of a comprehensive package, including both equipment and highly skilled operators, giving customers complete confidence on-site.
The LDR has already proven its value around the world, having been embedded on sites in Australia, the United States and parts of Europe. This includes a utility rehab project at a US Naval Base where the technology helped avoid 200 unknown utilities, saving over 1,000 hours of downtime and more than $1.5 million. This isn't the first time that we have taken best practices from overseas, having recently successfully adopted a Scandinavian way of Earthmoving, pairing a Wheeled Excavator, Trailer and Tiltrotator on a busy highways project.
This exclusive partnership reinforces our commitment to bringing the best technology to the UK market and supporting our customers throughout AMP8 and beyond.
Lynch’s strong focus on safety, digital innovation and productivity aligns with RodRadar’s breakthrough and easy-to-use technology. Our customers have identified that utility strikes are a significant concern and we believe that the LDR bucket is the answer. We are confident that contractors will recognise the Live Dig Radar as an essential tool with immediate ROI,” We are excited about the vast opportunity and are committed to ensuring that our products are fully accessible and successful for our customers nationwide, as the sole supplier to the rental market.
Chris Gill, Director at Lynch
'RodRadar is driven to give operators instant, actionable visibility beneath the surface during excavation,' said Yuval Barnea, VP Sales and Marketing at RodRadar. 'By partnering with a national rental powerhouse like Lynch in a predominantly rental-driven market, any crew from Cornwall to the Highlands will have access to the LDR and 'stop digging blind', making 'strike-free sites' an everyday reality.'
Machine Tech, a newly formed technology solutions provider, led by industry experts, was selected as RodRadar's exclusive Distributor for the UK to effectively expand the LDR reach and industry impact, providing best-of-breed services to Lynch and all contractors, utilities, and municipalities. 'We partnered with RodRadar because underground safety must be real-time, automatic, and precise,' Kris West, Technical Director and Co-Founder at MachineTech.
